Am I the only one who hates New Year's Eve?

Always have, even as a young child. Would always cry. Hate the song "Auld Lang Syne". Never wanted to see my parents, grandparents, etc. get another year older because it would mean that I was that much closer to losing them.

Anyway, I'm spending the evening here watching various YouTube videos (emmymadeinjapan) and surfing DU while hubby and daughter play Borderlands 3 on PS4. Should get started on meatballs for tomorrow (having company) but don't feel like it. Darned fireworks started at 9pm tonight so we gave the dog some CBD treats with dinner followed up by a few drops of Rescue Remedy. She's zonked out under the xmas tree snoring for now. Have been fighting a cough/cold thing since Xmas and plan on taking some Nyquil before bed, but not before my son gets home safe/sound from his girlfriend's house. Since it's NYE, he's supposed to be home between 1 and 1:30 (an hour later than usual). He's not old enough to drink legally yet and doesn't seem to really like it. He always is designated driver or "babysitter" for his friends. His GF just turned 21 and she and her family are all big drinkers.

Maybe next year I'll plan a NYE party with games and stuff and invite a few friends/family. I'm not a big party person, but maybe some booze and Cards Against Humanity or Relative Insanity would be interesting. Tonight, hubby, daughter and I will celebrate with a shared bottle of Lindemans Cassis Lambic, watch the ball drop, say "Happy New Year" to each other, and go back to what we were doing before 11:55 while waiting for our son to get home.

Truthfully, I'd be happy just glossing over NYE....

My best NYE ever? 1993 - the first time I felt my daughter move. I'm 56 - out of 55 NY's, I have one that is a pleasant memory. All other, Meh.

The deal is no questions asked, but I will go and pick him up if needed, so I don't want to be groggy if I have to do that. Only had to do it one time so far, but with an older car, may have had something to drink, etc. I at least want to be available and awake if he calls me.

But I was younger back then. Younger, more energetic, far less scar tissue. Now I dread it. I hide out at home, have a few drinks, and try to make it through the night with my wits intact. The older I get, the less I enjoy dealing with rowdy drunks, alcohol-fueled fights, and of course, our "demolitions experts" who enjoy blowing shit up all night while under the influence.

Over the years, this has gone from one of my favorite nights to one of my least favorite. Whether it's because shit gets crazier every NYE, or I'm just getting older and can't take it anymore (or both), I don't know. Hell, for all I know, Dick Clark was single-handedly making NYE great.

Either way, I'll be relieved when the night's over...

I always stay home. The few times I have gone out on New Year's Eve, I have had a miserable time.
Not that sitting here alone in my house tonight is anything to brag about. LOL?

very serious, spiritual, reverent. Absolutely beautiful! Since then I've tried to make my NYE's more that way.

when I was younger. But eventually going out to publuc places got old. It's one thing to enjoy a few.drinks and dancing, quite another to cope with the folks who thougtt the purpose of the night out was to get stone drunk.

Most of the people we knew felt the same way, so we had small parties with friends in our home for a few years. And then it just got to be old hst. Stayed home, watched the celebrations on TV for a number of years -- until 2000. That year I really enjoyed watching the celebrations on TV from around the world. Not every day you get to see the change of a year, decade, century, and millennium all at once. Then when some friends asked me to join them in a night out, I did. But, soon remembered why I preferred not going out on New Year. Haven't done it since.

Have missed midnight several times by falling asleep early. Happened again tonight which is why I'm up at this hour now. Got tired earlier and set my alarm for 11:30 before nappibg. Slept through the alarm and woke up at 1:00 am. Can't get back to sleep now.

Had some fun New Year's Days as a kid. My parents would go out for the night and bring home the party hats and noisemakers. My siblings and I would get up early to find them and have a rowdy party of our own at 7:00 am while parents tried to sleep in. Needless to say, that didn't last long. After 2 years in a row they remembered to toss the party makers before coming home.

1969 and it's bummed me out ever since. She was 76 and had taken a bad fall the week before Christmas. She had a compound fracture of her arm and had to have pins surgically inserted so she was in the hospital for a few days. I was on Christmas vacation so I volunteered to stay with her the week between Christmas & New Year's to help her out. We spent New Year's Day with her & my grandpa and then left for home at about 4 p.m. We lived about 15 miles away. The roads were bad in northern Michigan so it took more time to get home. The phone was ringing when we walked in the door. My folks immediately dropped me off at my other grandparents who lived almost next door on their way back to the hospital. She passed away at about 7:00 p.m.

I'm so glad I had that time with her, but I really hate New Year's.

Several decades ago, I haven’t cared for it either.

However New Year’s Eve Before the year 2000 was good.

Too many drunk people out and about and usually too cold. I prefer to stay in and order Chinese food and watch movies. I have re-defined what a New Year's Eve celebration is to me.

but it was just another excuse to drink. Now that I don't, it's a very meh 'holiday' for me.

The fact I'm a loner has a lot to do with it, I guess. I don't really look for reasons to congregate with others. All to often, I just sat around drinking and watching others socialize.
