I know we're really, really late to the party, but we are 5-6 eps. in and enjoying it.
But, the seemingly nonsensical mix of Norwegian and English dialogue is driving me crazy. If the Norwegians can understand English and Little Steven can understand Norwegian, why don't they just pick one?
I suppose it might be to highlight the fish-out-ofwater thing, but it pulls me out of the story.
Am I the only one?

(115,755 posts)I suppose they thought it made more sense for the Norwegians to speak Norwegian (especially the two goofballs who wrecked the sports car on the bridge); what was a little off was that Steven can understand it but not speak it, but that also makes sense because it's a language that's relatively easy to understand but more difficult to speak (I've been learning it for a few years and still find speaking it a bit tricky). It didn't bother me though. The series is a hoot.

What you said makes sense. They made a point of showing him listening to language lessons the first couple of episodes.

(61,695 posts)Looking forward to dedicating some time to it.
Especially as a bridge between seasons of other shows.

(3,697 posts)The concept of a NY gangster being transplanted in a Norwegian city was an interesting one but not enough to hold my interest for the entire season.

(22,264 posts)It just gets better. We use subtitles on everything and that was helpful.
We love fish out of water shows with quirky characters and absurd stories
It is a fun series and Steven Van Zant is awesome in it
