The challenge involved providing a stylish look for a Paris affair for Karlie Kloss. When the look was rejected, claiming that they couldn't see Karlie wearing the outfit, the contestant flippantly asked, "Not even for dinner with the Kushners?"
Why that revelation would be taken as an insult is beyond me. But the young contestant discovered quickly who had the power in this dynamic.

Considering the family dynamics, in that situation, it was beyond inappropriate for him to say that.

(20,202 posts)you don't cop an attitude with your client - EVER.
I've seen some pretty talented designers on the show, but always the ones that were chosen so they'd have someone to kick off. My favorite loser was the designer who didn't know how to use a sewing machine. She said "I'm a Designer, not a sample seamstress."

(9,696 posts)and why this was a bad thing for him to say?
I get that it was a bad thing in that it was a stupid remark when his outfit was rejected, but not getting the horrified reactions of the rest of the contestants in the green room.

(46,736 posts)The way the designer said it could have been taken as a slight. But, yes, I agree, I think they overreacted.
Nevertheless, I think he learned a valuable lesson. In fashion design you have to wait to get a name before you cop a tude.
