One of my favorite quotes of hers is: when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

My sister supervised employees in a state office. She hated backstabbing and insisted all customers (the public) be treated kindly. She repeated this saying often to the employees and new hires when they started.

Before supervising, she worked on electrical permits including those required of amusement ride companies. Years later she is still remembered by some owners as the first state employee who treated them with respect. Previously they were regarded as low lifes. She later learned that one owner in particular (and believe me these owners are quite wealthy) paid for health and dental work for all of his employees - even though most were short term. I think his employees felt respected too.
