Gérard idoux, chef at the acclaimed Le Récamier restaurant in Paris, was amongst a host of celebrities to sign an open letter denouncing Dry January as an affront to French culture. "These days, we are not allowed to drink, to smoke or even to have a mistress. It's just prohibition, prohibition, prohibition," Mr Idoux said.

Gauloises in our ration boxes along with canned pate and of course, cheese.

Wine with every mess hall meal and canteens could openly be filled with wine for the field exercises.

because folks are asked to give up their booze for a whole month.

He sounds just like a Republican - can't tell the difference between between being invited to do something and being mandated to do something.
