(46,045 posts)Theres really no reason to be afraid of non-venomous snakes. See how calm that one was?

(5,942 posts)I was the one tasked with catching for her them because I was the only member of my family not freaked out by them. People would call her about a snake they found and we would pile in the car to go get it. I grew up catching venomous and non-venomous snakes. Once you get accustomed to how they move, it is pretty easy and not scary at all.

(46,045 posts)I respect peoples fear of snakes, but I do want people to know that most snakes are mellow creatures and very beneficial to have around.

(22,074 posts)My husband is terrified of them, so guess who does the snake wrangling around here.
I used to get rattlers when I lived in Calif. Pick them up with a rake, slide them into a bucket with a lid, relocate them. Unless they kill one of your dogs, then all bets are off. I started giving our dogs venom vaccinations.

No.
He did get a pic a few years ago of a snake up in the pasture (from a distance!) No one could identify it--bright orange and large. Now the photo's lost on his old phone.
