(3,276 posts)Restaurant, the one down on the farm in Rio Grande, Ohio. It was in 1968 and I was dating a guy who went to Rio Grande College. (Rio is pronounced RYE-oh, btw. Maybe to rhyme with Ohio?)
Don't remember anything about the pie, though. We were there for breakfast.

And key lime. PECAN. So good.
I really like all the pie. 🥧

(13,571 posts)With sour pie cherries..(hard to find fresh except very brief season; I pit them and freeze them)
..and white rainier (or Queen Anne) cherries... (can find fresh, or canned)
...and dark sweet cherries (can buy them in jars at Trader Joe's all year)
A triple cherry pie. Yum.

(4,986 posts)Had that most excellent deal with a neighbor: I pitted and he baked.
Is also how I learned of lemon shaker pie. The apartments were cruddy, but the food and good times were great.
Grasswire2
(13,571 posts)A simple paper clip. Unbend one end of it, and you have a hook. Insert hook into the cherry, pull out the pit.

Thanks for the tip, and that triple cherry pie sounds amazing.

(14,494 posts)Mom's homemade pecan pie and skillet-fried turnover peach pies from many years ago. Many pies at home were what we called cobblers made in a baking dish - blackberry and peach mostly. OMG they were soooo good.
Shoney's restaurants used to have strawberry pie to die for.
Bottom line......never met a fresh-made pie I didn't like. Some commercial pies are pretty bad.

(6,253 posts)made with Jello-brand lemon pudding and pie filling - the kind that has to be cooked on the stove before putting it in the pie.
And the meringue can't be any taller than the filling! That's my usual choice for a birthday "cake".

(54,437 posts)Pecan, too, but only if really well-made. I don't like it when it has the consistency of cement.
