...yeah, it's a big field. But--here are some of mine--
Classic literature: Beatrice and Benedick, Rosalind, Prospero, Heathcliff, Mr Pickwick, Mr Micawber, Quilp, Leo Bloom, Nick Carroway, Yossarian, Ellison's Invisible Man.
SF/Fantasy: Hari Seldon, Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins, Lazarus Long, Muad'dib, Corwin, Daneel Olivaw.
Mystery: Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Ellery Queen, old and young Morse, Sergeant Hathaway, modern Sherlock.
TV: Rocky and Bullwinkle, Hoss Cartwright, Mr Gumby, Dan Fielding, Columbo, Red Reddington.
Movies: Rufus T Firefly, Charles Foster Kane, Atticus Finch, Keyser Soze, Riggs and Murtaugh, the whole cast of Pulp Fiction, and a zillion others.
I could go on all night, and some of the categories overlap. How about yours?
