(24,259 posts)Our late beloved BC used to have a 'flock' of our more tolerant cats that she'd bring in to the bedroom every night. We adopted her from a local shelter when she was 6 yrs old and she took to our other 2 older dogs and cats like she'd grown up with them and most of them really liked her too. Goddess but I still miss her after 12 yrs. She was just awesome.

I used to have a picture of her with her little 'herd' of 4 cats walking in front of her. They were pretty much on their way into our bedroom anyway at that point but she felt she was doing her job so it made her happy and those cats didn't seem to mind at all. She'd also make her rounds and check on us and the other critters. We referred to her as our nanny dog.
She came to us with major separation anxiety but we very quickly discovered (after she chewed through a bathroom door when we first were introducing her to her new home) that as long as she had her fur family around her, she was happy.

At first the dog had separation anxiety, so whenever Becky and her husband went out for two or three hours, they would come home to find she had "herded" all of their furniture into the center of the living room, and then dragged in pillows, blankets, folders and papers and anything else she could move.
A herding dog's instincts are a wonder.
Have you ever seen the "Extreme Herding" videos? This one is my favorite--because those dogs create the Mona Lisa with sheep! (I do feel rather sorry for the poor harried sheep, though.)

(24,259 posts)Forgotten all about it! Yes, those poor sheep. I'm sure they were harried but at least it looks like there may have been enough to give some a break so it wasn't constant and that might very well have been shot over days.
Aww... I'm not at all surprised that her Aussie did that. Herding dogs are happiest when they have a 'job' herding something and they don't understand when they're not allowed to by their humans. this can cause strife which is all to often unfortunate for the dog.
