Often cans that food items are packaged in are epoxy coated, to extend shelf life. If you cook the item in the original can the heating process may melt or otherwise soften the coating an contaminate the food. You are best to use a stainless steel sauce pan to heat your deviled ham.

In order to prevent any such leachingwhich is bad for the food and eater but also for the can (as it can cause corrosion)the insides of most cans on grocery shelves today are coated with food-grade epoxy. But these liners have been shown to contain Bisphenol-A (BPA) and other potentially harmful chemicals. BPA is a synthetic plastic hardener that has been linked to human reproductive problems and an increased risk of cancer and diabetes. A 2009 analysis of common canned foods by the non-profit Consumers Union found measurable levels of BPA in a wide range of items including some bearing a BPA Free labe

(14,160 posts)Let's see, I think I'll go with the pistol, fire a 22 caliber shot into the top off the can.
I would recommend you use a hollow point bullet because as it flares and flattens as it tears through the ham, it will help slow the bullet down. So then it hopefully does not continue along to puncture the bottom of the can of ham which would then cause excessive dripping and smoking inside your oven. This might set the smoke detectors in the room off.
If you are doing this in the kitchen of your home it is suggested everyone wear a bullet proof vest, for the sake of safety, in the event the projectile should ricochet around the room.
Bon appetite
A bottle of German wine would go nicely with that ham.

(50,562 posts)Deviled ham arrives fully cooked. It can be safely eaten right out of the can.
But if you have some reason why knowing the temperature of this product is important, Id say your best bet would be a pitchfork tine.
