(42,649 posts)I had it done in 2013. 20/35 vision in both eyes. I can read and drive without glasses.

(26,984 posts)I was extremely near sighted and had worn glasses or contacts for most of my life. When I had cataract surgery, I opted to pay out of pocket for some upgraded lenses that totally corrected my vision to 20/20. It was expensive, and also some of the best money I ever spent. I keep a pair of 'cheaters' on hand to read very small print on a color background but other than that, my vision is great.
BUT, for several years, I found myself reaching for my glasses when I woke up, and before I took a shower, and before I went to bed. It still happens, every so often, and I had the surgery about 8 years ago!

(54,770 posts)the first time. Prior, I was like a -11 dipoters Didn't really take me long to stop reaching for glasses after surgery.
I do wear reading glasses and have a pair for when I want to see perfectly sharp at a distance.
Good luck.

(7,428 posts)I ask because the CDC and the American Academy of Ophthalmologists have recommended that elective cataract surgeries be postponed due to COVID
