My Nextdoor neighborhood has been awsome

So many offers of help and sharing of resources. And jokes and pet photos and food photos. Lot of recs for the local restaurants doing grab and go's. TP needs are now down and mask making is running at full speed.

But this thread that started yesterday is just the best of the best.

------------------------

*Covid 19 Volunteer
I am trying to get in contact with an authority who is connected to the 1000's of ventilators that are not working. Can anyone assist with a connection?

VENTILATORS: I am a medical electronic engineer with global experience and acknowledgment; honorary recognition by Melbourne Blood Bank and french equipment manufacturer; published in the North American Journal of Radiology; an Aussie living in the USA, retired (sort of). I have 54 hours a week available and estimate I can fix fifty ventilators per day. Only need a space and units sent there in Denver Colorado. Given a small team, we could repair, test and QA hundreds per week. Can you connect me? Kind regards. John.
PS: I come free.

----------------------------------------

Wow, that's great John! Here is a link to the Governor of Colorado. You can send a note to his staff, they reach out very quickly. And I'm sure they could connect you to someone on a national level as well; https://www.colorado.gov/executive-office/office-governor. Thanks Mate!!

*Thank you Steve. Stay safe

My company has software built to track and manage the repair process for the ventilators. We have been brainstorming ways we can contribute. Please keep me in mind if you make contact with anyone in authority!

*I will do so and I am at your service if I can be of use.

John, I work in the Denver Emergency Operations Center. I’ll circulate your info to see if we can make a connection.

*Very much appreciated

John, you’re the best! Besides fixing my various TV issues, now you’re fixing ventilators for the COVID-19 war. What a gift you are.

*Just trying to do my part and thank you for the sentiment.

Thanks for your willingness to help. If you are able to make the connections and need some volunteers to help let me know.

*Thank you and you will hear from us if we can get connected

I can loan garage space; maybe not hygienic enough. LMK

*Space for the mechanical aspects may be valuable, I will let you know

I have given your information to someone at PSL ( St Luke’s) hospital to see if they can use your services

Please register with Getusppe.org. It is a national clearinghouse for ppe. Thank you for your help!

*This is a very good suggestion Eva. Thank you, I am doing this now.

Contact Diana DeGette's office or Jared Polis' office and explain what you can do; ask them to get you a contact number for the right person. Or, send a bulk email to several governors' offices in areas where the ventilators are most needed and see if you get a response.

*Thank you Cathy, I have messaged both Dianna and Jared, yesterday and look forward to a reply. I will follow up thih other governors today.

*you can also contact the Colorado Medical Society who are working closely with the state government officials regarding health care needs
Colorado Medical Society

*Thank you. I will follow this up today, good suggestion.

Hey there! We own a wedding venue in Idaho Springs (2400 sf of concrete floor). If you need a large space and that’s not too far to be useful we’d be happy to open it up for you to use. No weddings happening now, that’s for sure!

I also just spoke with a nonprofit that could contribute for shipping costs if that’s helpful.

*Thank you kindly, if some of the 1000's of non-operational ventilators came to Colorado that may be very useful.

John...if this gets off the ground and you need volunteers, let me know...i am mechanically inclined and am a retired software engineer...so i have 40+ hours a week i could donate...i also own a Sprinter RV van (with bathroom, shower and kitchen) that I could donate to the cause for you to use if you felt you could somehow put it to use...

*Awesome! I'll be back to you. There is a lot of response from my friends and their contacts, hospital peeps, government. We just need the Governor to get them shipped here from Federal stock piles.

I saw part of a clip on the news that Cory Gardner may have a lead on stored non operational ventilators. Give his
office a call for more details. Thanks for offering your services.

*This is a great lead and I will reach out now. Thank you.

I saw this in a press release today. Not sure if it’s a quick route, but hopefully they are checking the database daily. https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cobeoc/business-members-and-vendors

*Thank you

I forwarded your message to a staff member at the Denver Dept of Public Health & Environment.

*I have been contacted, thanks

John, I'll volunteer to help--not on the electronics side, but perhaps some admin support would be useful (great computer skills).

*Look out this may happen.

I might suggest calling respiratory medicine, and pulmonary and infectious disease depts. like at Craig Hospital, National Jewish Health, and Children's..I'd think they'd at least know where to send you. Good luck, and it's good of you.

Governor's offices too for that matter, as Gov. Cuomo in NY is identifying ones that are not working..you'd think there is a communication pathway between governors.
That's fair dinkum!

*I will follow up. How do you know "fair dinkum" ?

Visited Down Under many years ago. What a great place.

Sign up on the volunteer website! https://covrn.com/#Join-Innovation-response-team

*Thank you, yes I just got a call from them.

I sent your message to a friend who works for Bloom Energy. They are repairing ventilators in California. She is going to ask about possibilities for you.

*Bloom may be a great resource for us here. Thank you.

Let me know if you’d like an extra hand!

*Will do, you may be sorry you offered

I might have a spare nebulizer if that would help for parts maybe?

*I will get back to you, thanks.

John, direct message me if you’re still looking for contacts!

*Hi Rebecca,

I have had a great response and we are sorting into categories. If there are more contacts I would appreciate. This is not off the ground yet but it looks like there maybe 100 in Colorado, older not in use that could be activated. Kind regards, John.

Same people on there every day complaining about a dog running loose, etc.

No offers of anything, esp. help.

It sucks!

I have no idea what to do but glad it is helping you!

We both got on Nextdoor pretty early on and our experiences have been totally different.

Don't know why it just doesn't click in some places.
