As soon as I heard the guitar intro I knew it was Townes. I haven't heard him in 40 years. I know he has left us, may he rest in peace. He was a favorite of ours at Sand Mountain Coffee House in the Montrose area of Houston, TX. For all the melancholy tone of his music he had a wickedly dry sense of humor and several great talking blues songs. That coffee house introduced me to a lot of great musicians, Guy Clark, his one time wife, Susan, Don Sanders (rip), Johnny Winter, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lighten Hopkins and loads of others.

It was a great venue while Mrs. Carrick ran it. No alcohol allowed which meant there was not trouble, just great music. Started going their when I was in high school and continued a while later until son John turned it into a beer joint.
