I've either lost my freakin' mind, or I'm too damn high...

I was going through some of my music, and decided to listen to a few by 'The Association'.

Fellow DU'ers, please listen to this song while reading the lyrics, and replace the name "Mary" with "Covid". Not another word has to change...

Along Comes Mary

Every time I think that I'm the only one who's lonely
Someone calls on me
And every now and then I spend my time at rhyme and verse
And curse those faults in me
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to give me kicks, and be my steady chick
And give me pick of memories
Or maybe rather gather tales from the fails and tribulations
No one ever sees
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When vague desire is the fire in the eyes of chicks
Whose sickness is the games they play
And when the masquerade is played and neighbor folks make jokes
At who is most to blame today
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to set them free, and let them see reality
From where she got her name
And will they struggle much, when told that such a tender touch of hers
Will make them not the same
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
And when the morning of the warning's passed, the gassed and flaccid kids
Are flung across the stars
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the scars
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to see the stains, the dead remains of all the pains
She left the night before
Or will their waking eyes, reflect the lies, and make them realize
Their urgent cry for sight no more
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

As I listened over and over and read over and over, damned if I couldn't read every line in relation to Covid. I saw the insidiousness of the disease, the sides fighting over every freaking thing, the slow realization of some that it wasn't a "hoax" after all, and the knowledge that life will never, ever be the same.

Does this make sense to anybody but me, or should I slowly put down the keyboard and step away?

People tell me it's like I'm high but without drugs when I get creative

I can see exactly the correspondences in different views over time in that song.
Good observation.

It just struck me after hearing a few lines, and I stopped it specifically to search for the full lyrics.

Kinda' one of those "Wow, man" type of moments, ya' know?

I'm one of these weirdoes that can have different types of perception at the same time dunno if it's related to my senithesia or not. Can't spell.

then you are not too high.

I couldn't do it and I'm stone cold sober. And I grew up listening to that song! I think I'm just really tired.

No other way to put it.
If I could put a video on here, of me trying to sing that song, you would all find a way to get Skinner to boot me off of DU. It was that bad!

I got a cool song for a baked person ... esp. if you have a decent system and headphones ... and or good speakers and can crank it up even though it's nighttime.

I love this tune really loud when I'm high is what I'm saying

I'm into some fairly obscure stuff, so I'm not at all surprised it's new to you

Also ... honestly that whole record, Kaputt, is excellent. It's from 2011. Destroyer is basically the name of the band consisting of the Canadian singer/songwriter Dan Bejar and whoever else is around. I've heard all his/their other stuff and it's mostly very cool, been around since the late 1990's ... but that record in particular ... is the apex.

And it goes really well with being high for a buncha reasons ... not the least of which being it's one of the best sounding recordings I've ever heard. The production is phenomenal.

I've got everything in my collection from Ravel to Howlin' Wolf to Parliament to Native American Chants and most everything between. I just get in the mood for really different things sometimes.

I'll be looking for that album, and more from Dan Bejar, too. You have piqued my curiosity. Thanks for that.

rather than youtube, on account of YT sound quality being inferior/more compressed. Also easier to just listen to it in order and not have to find all the songs separately that way.

And ... no thanks needed, it's kinda my solemn mission in life to turn people on to new music

then go hunting elsewhere for what I like and want better quality for keeping. Prime does help in that respect.
