It is usually a sign of pain in animals to be so clingy, but I think many are genuinely unnerved and picking up on our anxiety.

(21,477 posts)When mine was a tiny thing of 9 weeks old, she snuggled up under my chin at night and tried to suckle my neck. When I gently moved her face away, she switched to my ear lobe, purring loudly into my ear the whole time. She missed her mama and it took a few weeks for her to outgrow the suckling attempts.
