Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIn the past two days, I've watched the season/series finales of...
...The Plot Against America, Better Call Saul, and Ozark, respectively.
Thrilling television for all of them, although now I feel a bit lost where to go now.
Can anyone tell me if that Waco miniseries on Netflix is any good? I heard it has Michael Shannon and Julia Garner in it, so that's a good start at least.
Still trying to tell myself to watch Tiger King just to see what all the fuss is about, but I've been putting it off.

(43,199 posts)On one hand, the FBI and ATF really did mess things up by taking a needlessly aggressive approach on trying to end the siege.
On the other hand, David Koresh was a total nutcase, and I think the series went unnecessarily soft on him and the adult Branch Davidians, almost like they were simply a bunch of flower children who were pushed too far. In the end, I think the lion's share of the blame of the deaths deserves to be placed upon them, as they were in fact the dangerous cult the government believed them to be. I mean, I understand it's Texas, but I'm still struggling for a reason why a church has to be stockpiling massive amounts of guns.
The acting was good, Michael Shannon especially, but I think using the apologetic memoirs of Thibodeau as a basis hamstrung the narrative of the story.

(34,122 posts)with us right now. I found it was just sad and stupid and representative of a lot of sad and not very bright people.
I remember watching Waco, it too was sad. I would watch Michael Shannon in anything, I like him. If I were you I would look him up on IMDB and binge on his movies. That is one thing I do to stave off the boredom, follow certain talents that I enjoy. My son got me into Expanse and it is pretty good. We have not even gotten through the first season but I like it. If you like futuristic movies you might like it, just do not get too attached to a certain character.

(43,199 posts)I actually watched the entire first season of "Servant of the People" on Netflix, which stars the now President of Ukraine playing the fictional President of Ukraine.
The only problem with subtitles is that for whatever reason, my Netflix subtitles are wonky...they'll leave out every 5th line or so. It gets really annoying if I'm watching something in a foreign language.

(8,072 posts)going on now. And I HIGHLY recommend a show on it called Mrs. America! It's about Phyllis Schlafly and the ERA movement. They downloaded the first three episodes at once and the rest will be once a week on Wednesday nights (I think there are six episodes in all). I can't recommend it enough. I think the Hulu monthly (which, of course, I'm now going to extend for another month at my cost) rate is around $7.

(115,869 posts)It's one of the best political thrillers I've seen; it involves evil Russians, a few clueless Americans and a lot of moral ambiguity. Subtitled if you don't mind that.

(115,869 posts)A violent hurricane resulting from climate change causes devastating damage in Norway, so the new Green Party government decides to stop producing and shipping North Sea oil, having developed a prototype of a safe thorium reactor. The US has withdrawn from NATO and the EU is desperate for oil, so with Norway unprotected and with the EU's encouragement, the Russians are able to stealthily invade and take over the oil production. The PM spins the presence of the Russians as a temporary "energy partnership." When this cover story unravels there are protests and a movement that might be considered terrorists or freedom-fighters, depending on one's point of view. There are also collaborators and profiteers and all manner of conflicted people. It's a great, very thoughtful series.

(4,907 posts)Coupled with "One of Us".
I love movies that immerse the viewer in a totally foreign environment. "One of US" is a documentary about Orthodox New York Jews leaving their religious sects. "Unorthodox" is a fictional story (based on a true story) of one woman's escape from Orthodoxy.
Many interesting issues and cultural details that I found fascinating.

(8,072 posts)but by the second week it came out...I tried to pace myself but it was just too good! And I watched the Better Call Saul season finale on Monday in real time (normally I DVR and watch later but I couldn't wait)....sooooooooooo goood! I recommended in a post below you sign up for a free one month membership with Hulu and then you can cancel (but - they drew me in and I"m keeping it for another month). I HIGHLY recommend watching Mrs. America. It's about the ERA movement and Phyllis Schlafley. It really gives insight into a very important and disturbing part of our history.

(43,199 posts)Don't think I've done that since the Red Wedding episode of Game of Thrones.
What's even crazier is that I had already read a vague spoiler about it, so I shouldn't have been as surprised as I was.
But damn. Damn.
(Don't worry. I won't spoil it myself.)

Honestly, every time I started a new episode, I wondered why I was watching, but by the second episode I needed to find out how it all ended. Now that I am almost done, I am appalled at the people in that world.
