I've seen big flocks flying overhead, but this is the first time I've seen any geese landing on my property. Last I saw them, they were heading up the street.

They are flying to the river bank for their daily foraging. They stop across the street often and our dog charges them as we walk by.

What we've seen that's new is blue herons sleeping overnight in the trees a couple of blocks from the river. We see them wading in the shallows every spring, but usually only 1-2 and only in April. There were 5 of them in the trees yesterday and they all took off and were flying around as we walked below. I'd never heard them calling before and was surprised at how loud they were. It was a very nice change of pace for this disturbing time.
