home and say them in front of my mother. The guilty party being the son of a friend of my mom's.
Got anywhere between a nickel and fifty cents depending on the word or phrase.
It was done to shock my mother but I ended up fluent in profanity with a nice little money stash.
She didn't punish me but she let her disapproval be known. To both myself and my tutor.
Helps to imagine a tiny, short, tow-head in a petticoat and ruffled undies who didn't get to wear jeans until she was ten.
The profanity was liberating. The heavily starched dresses not so much.
