My memory, of Ciraldo calling a big game:
There's one play left, Tech behind by 6. Ga Tech is on its own 45. Back to pass, there's a man open, he catches it, 45, 30, 20, Touchdown.
Tech just beat the number 1 team in the country, It's the greatest victory ever, students are pouring on the field, players are carrying the Coach Bobby Dodd, it's incredible, fans are cheering all over America, God has blessed this day . . . . . . . AND HE DROPS IT. Tech loses by 6 points.

Back, then, you were lucky to have one college game a weekend. You had to listen to the radio. Nowadays, you can see just about any game on TV, but I've kind of lost interest.

(62,416 posts)My dad supplied food to the press box so he always got in free and sometimes I got to go.
At the end of the day I would be laying on the floor reading, listening to the scores and the post-game. Kind of dreaming of these giant football players as they were portrayed in the newspapers of the day.
Does the name Tait Cummings ring a bell as a play-by-play announcer?
