I'll be 68 soon. Still shaving away, even though with my eyesight, I can end up with a shin Mohawk or calf mullet. I can't imagine doing this at age 90!

(25,972 posts)but I wore gabardine wool trousers during my years in the Navy. My legs are now virtually hairless, all these years later, wherever the wool made contact with my skin.

(86,775 posts)I had so many pairs of worn out jeans at one point that I upholstered my car with them and I still had a lot left over.

(28,394 posts)Today. They are your legs to not shave.
Marthe48
(17,015 posts)I noticed my jeans fit better today
shave y legs, it's only because they will be featured in my attire like wearing a dress or shorts or going to the hot springs where I will be wearing bare legs.
Marthe48
(17,015 posts)I'll be in shorts for the next few months

(30,760 posts)The growth there is not that frequent. I shave mostly in the summer, when I go out in shorts. Right now, I am not going out enough to bother.

Marthe48
(17,015 posts)She never shaved, and never had to. Wish I had listened to her :/ I get the chin bristles, another adventure in guessing where it actually is.
my daughter (who is a licensed esthetician and looks for those things) always points out my errant growths

(10,014 posts)It was probably 40 years ago and I had very little hair on my legs or underarms to begin with.
I felt liberated to stop shaving just like I did when I stopped menstruating.
There are benefits to being an elder woman who doesn't conform to societal expectations of beauty. I simply don't have time for it.

(272 posts)It is funny how much of our grooming and attire is dictated by society. I sometimes daydream about inventing my own clothes and grooming habits and accept whatever ridicule or praise comes my way. One of my ideas is wearing pants on your head and bed sheets as a wrap around, who cares, take that clothing industry. But I remember I need to keep my job and maintain the impression that I have not lost it completely.

(17,015 posts)There were only a few times in my life I had to have this chore in my schedule. I can't remember the last time I took the time, but I was among people today (grandkids) lol

(34,117 posts)The problem is at 66 there is not a lot of hair. It is also pretty light and hard to see so I have to feel my way around. I will look down on occasion and see what I missed but I doubt anyone else notices. I lost all the hair under my arms years ago, right after menopause. I was so happy about this but I still do not know why. Hot flashes now going on 13 years but much less every year, finally.
Shin Mohawk or calf mullet! Love that.

(17,015 posts)But even after a hysterectomy, still grows more than I thought.

(14,856 posts)Maybe it's different now, but some of the German women that I saw in the 80's had hairier legs and armpits than the men. I started to not notice it so much after awhile.
Edit: I'm joking about moving there. I'm mostly pointing out how it's a cultural contrivance.

I also have a beard and mustache that I need to wax weekly and touch up with plucking.
I'm 63 and a half. But I'm Armenian and endowed with too much body hair.
