I never have understood how they got relegated to the status of creepy horror movie props.

Here on the campus of the University of Missouri, on the Sunday of Earth Day every April, they have lots of Earth Day festivities that include birds that are brought and displayed by the raptors department at MU. That always includes one or two owls. I always so look forward to that, those owls are such gorgeous birds.

Alas, there were no Earth Day festivities here this year. Guess why?

A lot of years ago, my favorite husband and I were watching television late at night and heard something in the back yard. It was a huge white owl, and wasn't able to fly. We called our local raptor center and they told us to get a big box and then try to throw a towel over the owl and then put him in the box and take him to them. It wasn't hard to catch him, but I admit I was kind of terrified driving all the way to the raptor center with this huge owl in a box in the car. They figured he was shot. Anyway, they fixed him up and kept him there until he was healed, and then they invited us to be there when they released him. It was a cool experience.

I was just reading that Snowy Owls are actually kind of rare in Colorado, so I guess it was a treat for the raptor center too.

too?

Is that how they both ended up in the bottom of that chimney?

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time watching this!

Mama owl could've been chasing prey down the chimney and didn't realize the danger.
