hikers gotta hike...

even in 100 degree weather... big hat to keep horse flies away and vodka and thyme oil for rest of body (not internally!!)

hiked to the BOG... https://dec.vermont.gov/sites/dec/files/wsm/wetlands/docs/PeachamBog_Brochure.pdf

Peacham Bog is one of the largest and most beautiful bogs in all of Vermont, covering 748 acres. It is located in the massive Groton State Forest and within driving distance of seven Vermont State Parks. The bog is considered a dome bog because it naturally rises above the local topography.

cooled off here towards end of hike...

nobody out but me...

I kept singing:

"I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound"

It’s 90 here (northern PA) and the gnats have been horrible.

virtual hikes?

of all my joys, hiking in the woods is the ONE... my brother, in Michigan, and I text back and forth our frustration of not being on the Appalachian Trail... we both have started but haven't been able to finish (him: bad feet... me: a number of things) I am fortunate to have decent trails nearby and I can do day hikes... I do not want to leave my partner for long periods due to health concerns.

insects aren't as bad here as in the past... I have heard stories of ticks but haven't seen any myself this year yet. Horse flies are bothersome in the deep woods... I have come up with some pretty good insect repellents... thyme oil is good and I make a roll on with lots of smelly oils that helps

I did a fair amount of work in Pennsylvania (before I retired) and when I got off the trail in PA, my partner picked me up in Pine Grove...

"rocks, roots and rattlesnakes" was the warning the rocks were pretty impressive!!

hikes. We live a mile from the North Country Trail. We might be able to see the whole trail virtually here.

Thanks for the tip on thyme oil. It’s just the gnats right now, but the summer is young and we don’t have the bat population that we used to.
