posting this here will be like self-flagellation. I ordered food through DoorDash to be delivered. I watched the little car on the GPS map drive up and down, back and forth and round and round my fucking apartment for 10 minutes. I finally called the driver and said, "WTF" I am right here! Long story short, I finally got my food, soggy French fries and luke warm soup after another good 5 minutes.
She was just a kid. And I wasn't very nice about it. With everything going on right now, this is probably very low on the "importance" meter. I feel bad.
My patience these days is extremely limited.

(9,952 posts)And I had an shake, lol so a little more desperate than normal, I am sure. I called and told him I would be out at the curb and get back down the hill. !!!
It was very hard for me not to be a Karen. Lol.
But, I persevered and he still got a way too good tip.

(23,693 posts)Stress has certainly had a major impact on everyone. We all need to take a deep breath at times before we act. Dont be too hard on yourself.
Take care.

(20,252 posts)mainly customer service people lately. Get exasperated with billing issues galore. I don't cuss or call names, but my voice increases several decibels.

(21,107 posts)It is not perfect. It takes me to the wrong address sometimes. The planners in a certain city close to me were so stupid. They put the same street numbers on homes in the same neighborhood. It's so frustrating.
Always good to show patience and tolerance with everyone, especially low paid workers. Most try very hard.

(34,136 posts)I've tried it with Google Maps, but it hasn't stuck - they fix it for a while, then it reverts back to the incorrect directions.
Problem is that my 60 acres has a short end bordering a road on the west side and the property extends a half mile to the east. GPS and Google mark the center of the property and direct people to the closest road to there. That closest road is a cul de sac that has no entry onto my property - even though my street address (that people enter into their searches) is directly on the road on our west side.
If I mark my house, only an eighth of a mile off the road, Google tells me it is a ten minute walk to my property!
It's been a problem for years, but over the last six months while we've had construction, it's been a nightmare. One of he cement trucks went down the cul de sac and had to pay a fine because when he turned around, he dumped cement on the turn around. A semi delivering materials was too big to turn around and had to back a quarter of a mile uphill to get back on the road. And the tales just keep going. Now I have to include in delivery directions to NOT turn off County Road or go down CuldeSac Court!

(34,111 posts)out here in the country so I do not know how they actually work. Could you go to the site and send a small tip to her just so you feel better? I know that is the only thing that would make me feel better since you probably cannot find her and say it in person. On the other hand, everyone is cranky and I bet she just took it as a typical response to a late delivery.

(44,973 posts)You can pick form a number of restaurants. You specify the amount of tip you want to leave (service suggests the amount you should leave, but you can change it).
Then they show up with your food (if everything works well).
That would be heavenly, maybe. I am certain I would be very tempted to use it often!

(9,581 posts)I wouldn't not have tipped her.
MuseRider
(34,111 posts)I did not mean to sound like I thought you did not tip her, I just meant that if you felt that bad you could maybe send a little more and feel better about the situation? God, I am so sorry you thought that I meant you stiffed her.

(9,581 posts)Listen, I wasn't going to reward her for being a terrible delivery person by giving her an even bigger tip.

... often ordered delivery, and it was amazing how many times the driver would stop at the front entrance of the building where the managers' offices were located, then drive away when nobody answered that door because the managers were gone at night.
Yet slightly further down the same big parking lot were the numerous cars of the hourly workers, huddled near another visible door, the only door illuminated by outside lights, that was unlocked and with an intercom just inside.

(25,862 posts)you are making sure that at least one extra person is handling the order. Wouldn't it make more sense to go the the drive-through window, or do the curbside thing yourself?
LisaL
(44,973 posts)They do contact less delivery so you never have to meet any person or persons. I haven't had any problems ordering.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,862 posts)everyone along the line who touched everything was appropriately masked and washing hands? The delivery person still had to go through the drive-through or the curbside pick-up, which you yourself could do and eliminate at least one person handling your stuff.

(9,581 posts)It's very hot in KY right now. I have reactive lung disease, and I can't breathe in this heat, especially inside a car.

(44,973 posts)There might be a way to increase the tip, though.

(9,581 posts)for shitty food? She didn't appear to be too concerned with the pandemic, as she didn't have a mask on either.

(36,865 posts)These are gig workers who get paid shit wages with no benefits. And I am guessing a good share of them are new due to losing their regular jobs due to the pandemic.
But, you do you.
