An email ad I received in my Spam mailbox

This particular email was an ad for mail-order brides from China. There were pictures and descriptions of about a half dozen women, all of whom were quite beautiful and all of whom were looking for a husband aged 25 to 75! (Glad they're choosy.)

My favorite part is that two of the women were from Wuhan Province. Yeah, those are the babes for me! (snark)

Actually, I'm sort of curious which cookies triggered the emails... (wink)

huge swaths of the United States. Should the United States stop breeding, or are you trying to say something else?

Between the "Wuhan snark" and the wink, this post was disturbing.

First, my crack about Wuhan is simple: if you're targeting Americans, using Wuhan is really poor advertising since most American males probably won't make the distinction you've drawn between Chinese and U.S. Covid-19 cases. This is especially true when Trump and his crew keep referring to the virus as the "Kung Flu" or "Wuhan virus." Certainly you've seen or read those xenophobic comments. The ad could have used other regions of China that aren't so readily known to Americans. Parenthetically, I don't think the target audiences for the email ad were liberal Democrats who don't seem to be high among the clientele for mail-order brides.

Second, the (wink) is a not-so-subtle dig at myself because the email was probably generated from some off-color website that I **may** have visited. Get it?

The U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic has been pathetic and for the "greatest country in the history of the world" we've done a pretty shitty job. Thanks, Trump.

But an invitation to a mail-order bride website doesn't strike me as a serious issue. That's why I posted in The Lounge.

Regardless, my intention was light-hearted and I'm disappointed I didn't convey that to you clearly.

for the content of the spam you get. I sometimes get spam offering to increase my breast size. I'm sure I did nothing to deserve that!

And I did get your joke and thought it was funny, especially since it is an illustration of just how stupid spammers usually are.

Oh, and one from Bill and Helene who want to share their $150,000,000 power ball win with me.

I have NO idea what triggered those gems.

You'd have a lot higher chance of getting covid pretty much anywhere in the US than in Wuhan.

I just found it rather poor marketing to indicate that province since there are very few Americans who can name any of China's provinces, (I think there are 40).
