The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm feeling unmotivated, today, and need someone to kick me in the ass. Any volunteers?
It took me two hours to made the decision to get up and out of bed. Admittedly, I woke up at 5 and it was still dark out. That's my excuse for the first hour. The second hour I was watching the news. That might be the problem.
There's weeding to do. Some shrubs need trimming. The lawn could use another mow. Vacuuming, dusting, sorting stuff - all needs doing. I'm looking around and saying "Meh!"
Partially in my defense, I put off weeding and mowing, yesterday, because it was supposed to rain. It didn't. I may have missed my energy window. And I DID defrost the freezer and sort through more boxes of 'stuff'.
Ah, well. Five months of semi-isolation might just be taking a toll. Maybe I'll go outside and see if I can find any butterflies. That might just get me started, this morning.

(26,263 posts)I am waiting for the video of the Biden/Obama socially distanced conversation to start, at 10. Maybe that will lift my spirit. Then I'll start the search for butterflies.

(17,441 posts)But if becomes a problem, as it has with me in the past (now I'm the opposite), what I used to do is "turn myself into a robot".
I would try not to think about my lack of desire to do anything. I would try to turn off my mind and just start moving "mechanically". I usually found that once I got moving, momentum would take over.
Then again...life is short...do whatever you want!

(7,009 posts)Maybe Door County Wisconsin. I have friends that I have not seen in years that spend much of their summers there. A few have moved there permanently.

(115,719 posts)I've been that way for months - many household projects are gathering dust because I'm suffering from lethargy and sloth. Dust is just a decorating feature at my house.

(26,263 posts)However, someone called on Skittles to kick my ass, so I panicked and did some weeding AND mowed the lawn.
Now it's time for an adult beverage and, when the neighbors are done mowing, I'm heading out to read beneath the cool, breezy canopy of my maple tree. I'm always motivated for that activity.
