OP
Canada has its own currency. It's disrespectful to expect everyone to accept US$

Be aware that you should expect to pay for the convenience by a small overcharge.

Most places will not accept U.S. currency unless they are real border towns, and sometimes not even then.
You can use U.S.-issued credit cards in Canada, and your debit card will work in Canada's ATMs if you want some cash.

Have fun. Victoria is a great city.

'cause them their Kanadiens don't speak American and won't understand you if you don't.
Personally I usually just take cash out of the ATM when I get to Canada.
Have fun.

When you pay in U.S. dollars you tend to get shortchanged on the going exchange rate.
