(2,533 posts)Just a quick moment but I did get her attention once.
As a aging teenager living in Sausalito Ca. I also rode a single cylinder trail bike that easily did "wheelies".
I was heading up a long hill to a friends house & I did a nice (for me ) extended wheelie up the street. Not fast just brap-brap brap playing with the balance point.
I saw a lady in her yard doing some watering. I thought oh bleep I've made one of the neighbors angry.
Nope- She was smiling & waving encouragement!. And then I realized who it was.
Julia Child circa 1982

(36,434 posts)Dorothy Cousins was two inches taller then Julia, and lived in Sausalito. I knew Dorothy Cousins years before Julia splashed on TV. They are spitting images of each other. I grew up in Mill Valley and it was common to see Dorothy Cousins tooling around in her cool Checker car, ferrying the Sausalito kids to Tam.

(2,533 posts)I knew of her through my Mother who had worked at the local Culinary carnival & always hounded her for charity work.
I knew the neighborhood fairly well and had seen her sister often.

(36,434 posts)We used to live up on San Carlos Ave before moving to Mill Valley. Her son, Sam was two years behind me in school, but I knew him well.
Ivan and Dorothy were members of a gourmet club with my parents.
