Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe highlight of my week? Finding a pair of dark blue denim jeans that fit.
Straight leg, not 'skinny', a good length, slightly loose in the waist so I don't start feeling fat, no factory installed holes, rips, and/or bleach streaks. Just nice, sturdy, dark blue denim jeans.
I take my victories where I can find them.

Congratulations.

(26,267 posts)Truth is, I'm within only a few lbs from what I weighed in high school but I had a 35 lb weight loss brush with anorexia, in my past, so now I avoid anything that might trigger that again and snug clothes, even if they actually fit, might be a problem.
Sometimes self awareness can be exhausting.

(17,006 posts)high end thrift shops. They have every brand ever made and always have more talls than anyplace else.

(2,221 posts)Not that Im tall- 5 6, but I have long legs and after I wash the average length they look like floods! Good advice about the thrift stores-didnt think about that! Kohls has the Sonoma Fit for Life brand that I like but even online the talls are hit or miss to nab!!

(17,006 posts)anything other than flats. A taxi driver once told me thrift stores near hospitals are good because doctors and nurses drop stuff there. He was right!

(32,005 posts)Better quality, more expensive clothes fit better. And even though they can be hit-and-miss I do almost all clothes shopping there any more. I dont need to look nice for a job or anything but I still want to look decent and fashionable. Im not old and frumpy .... yet!!
The price tag on a brand new pair of jeans at the mall is just out of the question for me.

I can try on 3 pairs of the identical jeans...same brand, same style, and same size and each one will fit different..too tight, too short, too big?...I personally think jeans and swimsuit shopping is god's way of reminding us there's a hell...

(32,005 posts)I found a swim suit that fits me ... I swim laps several times a week so I need a good swim suit .... I order from Lands End. When my suit wears out I re-order another one in the same size. They now make a chlorine resistant one that lasts a little longer.
Saves me the hell of shopping for a suit in a store!!

(4,305 posts)They don't make them for short girls. I am stuck between adult and kids sizes. Kid sizes do not make room for the hips of women who have had kids. Adult sizes don't make them for short women because we can't have the knees down on the shins after I cut a foot off the length.
One time I went looking for a dress for my friends wedding. 17 stores, many hours later with at least 50 try ons, I found one that fits. The sad part was that my aunt who was 40 years older than me was wearing the same damn dress. Jeans, pshaw, good luck with that.
We won't even talk shoes. Size 5 None in the adult dept. Plenty of kids shoes with flashing lights and glitter.
Glad you found your jeans, care to go shopping with me?

(2,302 posts)Not cheap, I know, but I'm 5'1" and I'm pretty happy with them.
For the rest, I make my own tops and dresses (and masks, bags, wallets, etc).
