(52,253 posts)Not tremendously particular about brand but prefer organic. Right now I have Whole Foods / 365 organic pulp free in the fridge.
Fresh squeezed is great if filtered but not worth the bother imho.

(115,732 posts)although the color of the fruit isn't as disturbing as the color of, say, an overripe pumpkin. Once I get past the color I like the fresh-squeezed juice if I can get it.

(22,756 posts)eat oranges instead... orange juice is concentrated sugar and not at all good for one to drink

(9,267 posts)Around here (PA) the oranges in the store are from South America and inedibly sour. When the Florida oranges come back (around Nov.) Ill go back to eating at least one a day. In the meantime I allow myself a small glass of Trop 50 in the morning. Half the calories, no artificial sweeteners (dont know how they do it), tastes pretty good. And it comes in with pulp, my preference. That way I know DH wont drink it as he hates pulp in OJ.

(22,756 posts)which is fine... but if orange juice for Vitamin C... there are lots of good food with as much or more vitamin C than oranges/orange juice...
((...sorry, I'm pretty obsessed when it comes to food and nutrients as I have been caregiver for a number of people with diabetes and related health issues))
marketing is pretty powerful stuff... of course type of orange, age, how processed, amount, etc. all factor in
sweet red peppers have 2x+ the C
hot peppers
kiwi
pineapple
green peppers
spinach
kale
broccoli
strawberries
vegetable juice
etc...

(5,641 posts)Even if fresh squeezed was available, if there were oranges, I'd go for the fruit instead of the juice.

(55,013 posts)Benito Juares and Minerva, kitty corner from the Plaza Benito Juarez in Casas Grandes, Chuihuahua that will squeeze and serve you a 12 ounce glass for about $2. and they will recognize you after a year or two and everybody will come over and shake your hand. that is my favorite. Constantino's. it has been almost 4 years I think.

(25,183 posts)has two grades of store brand, the cheap one is not that good, but the slightly more expensive one ($3 vs. $2) tastes a lot better, like it has Valencia oranges in it. I only have a bit a few times a week, my lady and I take a couple of weeks to go through the bottle. I'll add some of it to fresh fruit to make a smoothie for us about once a week.

(3,642 posts)The taste is no better or worse than regular juice, but the low acid is a necessity.

But it's still my go-to drink if eating out and others are ordering alcohol.

(22,897 posts)That is, the whole orange.

(34,136 posts)We'd peel the top third to get the peel and rind off, then cut a divot into the top of the orange. Squeeze and suck the juice straight out. Best if done on a warm day after the first frost of the year while picking oranges to send to out relatives in Alabama.
Actually I stopped drinking orange juice a long time ago. Last year we sold the family orange groves that were planted by my Dad and his brother when they were kids on land Granddad bought after the Florida Land Bust of 1928. After a bad post op experience, I may never drink orange juice again.

(54,403 posts)Valencianas (also known as "blood oranges" for their color) have a slightly more bitter taste, but blended with ripe normal oranges, I can drink two full glasses (if I have time to squeeze them, and when they are in season), and I'm good, breakfast-wise.
