(153,169 posts)this story was so well done, so well told
I love it when he says "it sounds ridiculous but we have an understanding" - I had that with my tuxedo cat Riff Raff - he had been a stray; when I adopted him I tried to keep him inside but he wasn't having it, when he finally got out he was gone 17 days - when he returned we had that "understanding" that he WOULD be able to go outside - he was with me for fourteen years until he passed and always had his outside time.

(35,685 posts)I recall when my cat went outdoors but kept "knocking" on the door. I couldn't figure out what she wanted, but then I did--she wanted me to come outdoors with her!
I remember thinking how flattered I was that she wanted my company.
That's how they wrap you around their little paws. They get you thinking like that.
BTW, I wouldn't let my cat go outdoors except that she was an outdoor cat when I got her and I don't live on a street. I live in an area where there isn't any traffic, back on a private road. She can go outdoors and no fear of cars.
In regard to this guy in the above video, those two were meant for each other.

(6,890 posts)it kind of hit me - cats don't give the enthusiastic adoration that most dogs give humans - but they do give calm. That's what I have always gotten from my cats. Adoration embarrasses me.

(6,556 posts)That's why I love having cats. Life is simpler with them.

(47,501 posts)They are very persistent. Once they claim you as their own, you can't escape.

(6,556 posts)...they pick out the person who really doesn't like cats to lavish with their undying attention. I have never figured out why they do this. But persistent is a good descriptor for cats!

(47,501 posts)I've always been allergic to cats and I'm really more of a dog person, but cats do seek me out and don't give up. Several have won me over, but unfortunately, I was still allergic.
Though I prefer dogs for the most part, I must say, I have been fascinated by the cats I've known. When I lived in California, there were a lot of outdoor stray cats and a number of them settled in my yard as a small colony. Eventually, the females were all spayed and the group was registered as a colony. They were far more interesting as a group than one or two indoor cats who primarily interact with humans.

My all white cat chose me right at the foster care. He hopped right up on me and looked at me like ok when are we leaving.
He had a more timid buddy, so I adopted them both. I didnt want to break up the friendship.

(6,265 posts)adopt me...and one dog via a friend who found him wandering as a puppy, brought him to me. You know the story. I'll find him a home. 9 years later she's still searching The cats and dog are all fur buddies except...for the 16-year-old feline. She only wants to be friends with me...sometimes. All others make a wide berth when the queen is residing on her multiple thrones.
Wouldn't trade them for the world

(5,324 posts)Somebody in the neighborhood must have been feeding the cat, but it habitually returned to its old home each day after it was fed.
The cat didn't "choose" the guy, it just accepted its replacement domestic human since we all look the same to a cat.
