A friend recently had to take down a large bald cypress. Maybe not quite as tall as this palm, but 60-70 feet. When it was topped, the woodman got a similar wild ride.

And let them fall - too much chance of hitting power lines or buildings. Usually they top the tree, often taking most of the branches off, sometimes while lowering them with ropes. Then they can cut down the main trunk in smaller portions, if the space is limited.

I'm sort of addicted to watch YouTube videos of wood stuff and found Matt Cremona's channel. He salvages urban trees and makes beautiful projects with the lumber he gets. Here is fairly long video of a tree being cut in a tight area that shows the entire process - after he hauls the cuts home, he slices them with his portable sawmill - that part is not shown in this video:
