It's a 10 year old TV space opera with some horse opera & and soap opera thrown in, and a country/western theme song. Compared to other TV fare, it's not half bad. I'm watching it via NetFlix.

(30,994 posts)The subsequent movie "Serenity" was stellar.
I wish they were still shooting the series. Or do another movie.
If I hit the lottery I'd build a house that looks EXACTLY like that space ship.

(4,076 posts)I'm not sure why. Maybe too raunchy and/or violent for prime time?

(5,639 posts)...well, it was chugging along just fine until that absurd scene at the end with River. The Reavers had no problem opening fire on everyone, but when River gets pissed they decide to drop their arms and fight her one-by-one. I'm sorry, but that was SO stupid, and it couldn't have come at a worse time.
Yes, I know such things don't ruin movies for everyone, but that scene was so unbelievably ridiculous that I couldn't handle it. For that matter, neither could anyone around me, if the groans and multiple instances of "Oh, give me a fucking break" were any indication.
The series, though, was great. "Our Mrs. Reynolds" was one of the best episodes I've ever seen in sci-fi of any franchise.

(15,774 posts)is that the one that started with him sitting bare assed on a rock in the middle of nowhere and saying "That went well."
I went out and got the entire series and the movie. I watch them every few months. I wasn't fond of Serenity's ending but it tied some lose ends. I hated that they lost some good characters in that movie too.
I have to say, this series would make me reconsider my ban on tv viewing.

(5,639 posts)The one you describe is the one where they planned on stealing a valuable gun. The one I was talking about is when Mal accidentally got married to the girl who sabotaged the ship and sent it hurtling towards a trap set by guys who steal ships and sell them for parts.
As for the movie, killing off Wash was the way they let us know that there would not be a sequel.
AnneD
(15,774 posts)I remember both episodes but get them mixed up for obvious reasons.
I also hated seeing Shepard go. I wanted to know more about his past. And Wash-I really liked he and Zoe.
There were lots of detail that was interesting-like the big corporations, the listening post, etc. It was a rich world.

(28,941 posts)I had the impression before he got religion he was a high ranking officer in the Alliance army, maybe even commanded at the Battle of Serenity Valley. If so and Mal found out, that would have been an interesting episode.
Book would have agreed with Brother Cadfael, "A soldier has much to contemplate."
A great series, ended much too soon.

(15,774 posts)most memorable. And the flashback did not dissappoint, or the ending for that matter. First time I have ever seen a guy be bare butt nekkid and still be in uniform and in charge.

(1,999 posts)Same with Jericho, which I just finished up this past weekend. So many good shows that escaped my notice, either by my own inattention or the networks not giving them the promotion they deserved.
I absolutely loved Firefly, the movie Serenity not so much.

I can definitely see why people say it was cancelled WAY before it should have been.

Might as well have it in writing, since it's obviously going to be on for years.

Leonard: Why not?
Sheldon: Because no one likes Babylon 5.
Leonard: Well, I like it.
Raj: Me too.
Howard: So do I.
Leonard: There you go, 3 against 1.
Sheldon: They don't get a vote. It's 1 against 1 and according to the roommate agreement, all ties will be settled by me.
Leonard: But I said no to that.
Sheldon: And I said yes. And I settle all ties.

(13,421 posts)Loved Firefly!!! I've got the series on DVD and I still go back and watch it on a regular basis. I honestly think it was too well written for a lot of the TV viewers out there. I'm hoping for another movie someday, but it does seem like most of the actors have moved on to other shows so that hope may be in vain.
