It used to be that experience meant an easy in to a job. Now it means the trash barrel. The country is fucked in every way possible.

assembly job and started out by telling the person that my basic skill is as a AutoCAD drafter. she'd been looking for a CAD person for a couple of days...

I just graduated from college about a month and a half ago, and decided that I should start applying to service/manual/whatever stuff while applying to grad schools (which I just assumed I needed in this climate). I had to post my resume on Career Builder for a part time warehouse gig and got a call from an environmental consulting agency (I majored in Environmental Science) about going into the field and writing environmental site assessments. Ended up interviewing with them. I hear back in about a week. That was a stroke of (potential) luck.
