As a matter of fact you could dial the operator and tell them, "Connect me with Dr. Loo." And they knew who you wanted to call.

was Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet." Before Smart cars, there were Yugos. The Viet Nam War was still going on when I was born. As a teen, I saw a wall fall, a shuttle explode, and a president and Beatle shot.

No television, no telephone, no paved road, no indoor plumbing. We were in the boonies of eastern NC. We did get all of those except telephones by the time I was six; I was ten when telephones reached us.

but a decade later, I still barely knew enough to even consider disliking Ike or his warning; then in just a couple more years, this child's mind would have lots of damn good reasons not to trust any member of the GOP ever again! of another age marker - a time when TV's were a piece of furniture, standing on the floor in cabinets that were double or triple the size of the screen. Also, "snowy" reception and adjusting rabbit ears to make it clearer. Then, getting a roof antenna in order to receive the UHF station.

my folks were picking up report cards when he was declared dead.
they announced it on the pa. my mom came home in tears.
he had visited my little town, they drove right past my house. my mom shook his hand.

I actually enjoyed watching the test pattern, waiting for TV broadcasting to resume. The first program of the day was The Wonderful World Of Brother Buzz, and I NEVER missed it.

Don't remember him, but I do remember Ike. Vague memory of the last McCarthy hearings on TV.

Wearing pinafores in kindergarten. Crinolines, poodle skirts, and saddle shoes in grade school. Nickel candy bars and popsickles.

I was in elementary school when students were still allowed to wear Halloween costumes to school and we walked down to a nearby nursing home to parade our costumes for the elderly. I also in elementary school when the Challenger disaster happened.



I was in junior high school when Baby Jessica fell into the well and was rescued.




There were plenty of payphones to be found and Saturday morning cartoons was the best part of the weekend.

I don't really remember it because I was only about 3 or 4, but my dad showed it to me years later. They had kids on bleachers on the stage and I was one of them.
