Today was my civic duty day. I voted (ballot box) and paid my six month land taxes.

The voting was a joy. The land taxes not so much.
I paid off my land years ago, but am still "renting" it from the government.
Somehow they figured out how much my social security check was and charge me almost the
exact same amount, twice a year.

yes all range cattle. NRCS suggests for people starting out in this type of country to run a cow or pair to 80 acres.

for the next anticipated question, the ranch is about 80% State Trust lease (money goes to the trust for certain beneficiaries - https://land.az.gov/our-agency-mission/beneficiaries )

When I left NJ my land taxes were over $16,000 per year and now in NC they are $1,500. I got a "raise" of over $15,000 for retirement. Not bad. I pay my taxes with a big smile.
