use that, as poster below suggests. Otherwise if the photo only exists in your computer/phone, then yes, it has to go to a photo hosting site. THEN it will have an image address.

Click on the pic
Hit Done - top right corner
Image will appear
Lots of copy options - I use the second one Direct Link -click on the blue thingy on the right hand side b

That said, it's pretty easy, and free. But I think the question was really whether you can post a picture directly to DU from your computer, and you can't. Getting a Postimage or other photo posting account means your photo is now on the internet and will have its own URL, needed to post on DU.
