Zoom extending meeting time limit on Thanksgiving to avoid cutting off your family's call

Leading up to Thanksgiving, Zoom has announced it will lift its 40-minute meeting limit for families who choose not to spend the holiday together because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video conference service announced its decision to extend its meeting time Monday morning. The announcement comes at a time when scientists are recommending that families either drastically limit the number of people gathered together to celebrate the holiday or to scrap plans altogether for in-person gatherings.

As a thank you to our customers, we will be lifting the 40-minute limit for all meetings globally from midnight ET on Nov. 26 through 6 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 so your family gatherings don't get cut short. ❤️🏡 #ZoomTogether pic.twitter.com/aubsH0tfxG

The extended Zoom times will run between midnight on Nov. 26 and 5 a.m. Nov. 27.

People can also use Jitsi Meet, it’s free and open source, pretty much the same as Zoom but free with no time limit, can have up to 75 people, and doesn’t collect your data.

called 8x8. It’s open source. Here’s their Wikipedia page. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jitsi
It mentions some funding sources such as University of Strasburg and NLNet Foundation.
I like that you can use it in the browser without downloading anything if you prefer, I tried to do that with Zoom as it says you can but that did not work for me. I have a relative who works in encryption and computer security and he likes jitsi. He would never use Zoom due to security. I’m not so strict and I use Zoom sometimes as so many events are on it, but if I have my own meeting I use jitsi.

Such a pleasure to look at. So unlike slapstick "dancers" who flap their big feet in other people's faces.

And I'm so grateful for Biden-Harris. Our country dodged a bullet!

Limit lifted from “midnight ET on Nov. 26 through 6 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 ”.

Who in the ET zone will still be up on Thanksgiving to have a zoom family meeting from midnight to 6:00 the next morning, or in the Central zone from 11 at night to 5 in the morning. Am I reading this wrong?

8. Midnight marks the beginning of the day, rather than the end

according to wiki.

Midnight marks the beginning and ending of each day in civil time throughout the world.

As the dividing point between one day and another, midnight defies easy classification as either part of the preceding day or of the following day.

Though there is no global unanimity on the issue, most often midnight is considered the start of a new day and is associated with the hour 00:00. Even in locales with this technical resolution, however, vernacular references to midnight as the end of any given day may be common.

12:00 AM November 24 signifies the start of the day. 12:00 AM occurs before noon of the same day. The AM signifier comes from Latin "ante meridien" which translates to "before midday".

rather than 11:59pm. As stated in the reference “ vernacular references to midnight as the end of any given day may be common”. Learn something new.

So I guess that's how they make sure there is no confusion.

So if the announcement had said:
"The extended Zoom times will run between 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 26 and 5 a.m. Nov. 27. I would have immediately understood.

As I say, "Live and Learn". Always something.
