I went to see it in the theater when it was first released. I was in college, went with a very funny friend.

As soon as the first "suicide" happened, we burst into hysterics. The rest of the theater - not so much. Some people walked out. Jim and I loved every minute of it.

Great Suggestion.

I love that one. It works so well, potential violence, yes...but "Iron" is such a gentle soul...and at the.............. very end, Iron reassembles himself and comes alive again...................................................

The Hunt for Red October.
The Godfather.
Harlem Nights.
Return of the Jedi.
Hannibal (the sequel to Silence of the Lambs)—the good people win, in the end. This movie can put me to sleep like no other—except The Hunt for Red October. That one, I think, is the best.

Those are my go-to “good guys win in the end” movies. They regularly put me to sleep. They’re super-safe.

But you have to earn the ending. Throughout most of the movie, you’re supposed to feel miserable, and that’s what makes the end so spectacular-feeling.

Bride and Prejudice is a Bollywood musical version of 'Pride and Prejudice', starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It was her first English speaking role. I can never watch this film without dancing. And smiling. A lot.

Very Annie Mary is a brilliant Welsh film about a woman who is a VERY talented singer but missed a valuable opportunity when her mother died. She tries to escape from her very controlling father (Jonathan Pryce) but he has a stroke. She then tries to raise funds to send her dying friend to Disneyland but she loses the money. However, she is able to redeem herself in the most moving way. (I always cry at that point in the film) What I love about this film is it is a Welsh film about Welsh people, starring Welsh actors so the feel of the film is beyond authentic. And the story is funny, touching and just plain lovely. I haven't seen it in YEARS and am always on the look out for it showing up, somewhere.

I defy anyone to not find themselves smiling at the end of both of these films.

The Personal History of David Copperfield, by Armando Iannucci, with Dev Patel, Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw. A delightful, imaginative romp that came out in theaters this fall but is now available to stream. Very original, and quite funny.
