Stomp on them and stomp on them until they are dead

In the early 2000's, after 9/11, I was looking to buy a horse. I wanted a special breed that was relatively rare in the US at that time, a Friesian. My daughter, who excels at research, found one online located at a farm in Virginia. We made contact an arranged a visit. It turned out that the husband was a Republican political who had been the Director of OSHA during the Reagan Administration - which gave us pause. (In our family, we have a saying - Republicans are either stupid or evil, or both). But the wife was perfectly lovely and invited us to visit for the weekend, see the horse and attend a horse show on that Sunday before heading back home. So we went!
The farm was beautiful, located in Virginia horse hunt country and close to James Carville's place. The couple were liquidating their horse herd, selling the farm, and starting a (dubious in my mind) radio venture in Central America - or at least, that is the story we were told. The wife was gracious and hospitable; the husband was, in fact, evil. I got inklings of this at the barbecue dinner arranged for that Saturday evening, due to various comments denigrating us as "liberals" and questions he asked about the upcoming gubernatorial race in Pennsylvania. We assured him that Ed Rendell would win.
It was on the second day that he revealed himself. After a spirited discussion about a woman's right to choose he said that his job as a Republican was to - and I quote - "Stomp on the Democrats, and stomp on them and stomp on them until they are dead!" I was appalled and we left the horse show shortly after that to head home.
This attitude of scorched earth and decimation politics has been around for a long time, beginning with the 70's Nixon cheating, picking up speed with 80's Reagan racism, magnified by the 90's Newt Gingrich partisan poison, continued with the smoother but no less destructive 2000's Bush slow motion government ruination and finally the 2010's rise of authoritarian Drumpf fascism. They do not deserve our compassion or outreach, but do require respect and understanding as terrible opponents. Know thine enemies!
The mare we looked at that weekend was pleasant but unremarkable; we did not buy from the Republican jerk. We bought a wonderful Friesian gelding that my daughter found - again online - in Canada and he was my beauty boy until his passing last year at the age of 23.

They are a fairytale kind of horse. Always black, long flowing manes and tails, just majestic. Movies like Zorro have used them. they are personable and kind.

He is definitely beautiful! Ok, my Oliver was maybe not that magnificent but there was never a day that I didn’t walk out into the barn and think how beautiful he was.

My Oliver was born in the Netherlands, imported to Canada, and I bought him from there. One of my dream trips is to go to the Netherlands and see the stallion show. Gotta win a lottery first though!

We despise them for their beliefs, but I have never heard a Democrat speak such murderous thoughts (Ok, maybe a little w/ Trump) as I have with republicans.

They not only despise us personally, they honestly want to wipe us off the face of the earth. I honestly believe that if someone else like Trump or worse were to gain power again and the republicans gained control of the House and Senate, you would start to see something like Nazi Germany begin to emerge again. Maybe not in exactly the same way, shape or form, but just as virulent, hateful and murderous.

I don't think that statement is far fetched nor do I think it's hyperbole. They hate us that much. We are nothing more than vermin to them. They don't see us as human. They see us as an evil that needs to be eliminated completely.

I sometimes feel disgust or disdain for those who support the Orange Anus or the awful Republican policies in general. But hatred,.....no.

Mitch McConnell, referring to President Barack Obama in an interview* on October 23, 2010:

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Think we can add this to litany that includes "beginning with the 70's Nixon cheating . . ." and "Stomp on the Democrats"?

I'm sorry that you and your daughter had to endure that jerk. I'm very sorry, too, that you lost your beautiful boy.

of maintenance so they don't get scratches.

Horses leave their mark on one's heart. After 21 years I lost my 34 yo Gray Paint in September and my 24 yo Palomino rescue in October. I rescued him at age 7. The vet didn't expect him to live more than a month. A testament to alternative meds!
