Lounge Ladies: How do you feel about men's facial hair?

I've had a mustache forever, Jeannie likes it. But lately I've fighting with my razor and have a pretty decent beard going.
She does not care for it, says it scratches her sensitive skin. I think I look dashing. I have friends who have not touched razor to face in years, making a statement (spiritual?). It is a tad itchy. So whatya think? Clean shaven, mustache, full beard, cave man?

the guy.

Some look great with facial hair...some don't.

Some look great clean-shaven...others don't.

Whatever the facial hairiness level though...it has to be fairly neat.

Not really into the caveman/ZZ Top look or huge walrus mustache

I'm beardy at the moment and I've been working on growing a "old-timey handle-bar mustache". It looks good with the hi-polish jet-black hipster eyeglass frames and the high-and-tight haircut with a slight-part.

I LOVE facial hair, as long as it's neat.

My husband has a beard and a moustache, and I love how he looks. Tell Jeannie that as your beard gets a bit longer, it will be (hopefully) silkier!

And how about a pic?

To get a picture on DU don't you have to have a photobucket account? (I do with one photo). I have tried to post pics but I must be dumb.

She showed her Japanese host family and friends my pictures (with full beard) and she said they just universally cringed.

The people there loved me, beard and mustache and all. But the biggest treat for them--especially the kids--was my arm hair. They couldn't get over it.

If you want to get your arm hair stroked and pulled constantly (with giggles), go to Vietnam.

That's gotta be helpful, at least in some small way, to a person who turns to DU for personal grooming advice.

(btw, I'm a woman)

'staches are ok on some people: if you have dark hair; if it's trimmed right; if it goes with your face.

I personally don't like goatees etc. But I'm older, so maybe that's a current fad thing.

I DON'T like actual beards... especially on older men who have gray hair. I really don't get that. A gray beard only makes you look older. Why do that? Secondly, it looks like you're hiding your face. Even if it's dark (again blonde and red looks odd), the hiding-effect is off-putting. And just too hairy.

Another thing, I think a lot of hair on the face and little on the head looks out of balance.

.02 cents, fwiw.

beards hide sagging jaw lines, wrinkles, and turkey necks. Which really makes someone look better or worse?

as to the lot on the face and little on the head, my beard has always grown very well, though I've gradually developed pattern baldness over time. Without a beard, I have no distinctive features.

Besides, my wife loves the beard.

He can grow a full fledge beard within two weeks. I like his stubble and beard, but not so much in-between. Him shaving all the way, is just plain weird too.

Depends on the type of bone structure you have though. Some can pull off mustaches, and some just look like automatic pedophiles with one.

Good luck... Don't do a drip strip!

With my last boyfriend, I liked him with a little facial hair but not that much. Stubble can be very sexy as can the 5:00 shadow.

But clean shaven is just as good.

I don't like long beards though. I don't want to kiss someone with a Santa Claus type beard.

Also depends on the style. Personally, I totally hate those dumb little soul-patch things. They make a guy look like he missed a spot while shaving, or else that he thinks he's incredibly cool and hip. Ick.

But I do like them well kept. That Mountain Man thing isn't my cuppa. I've actually hardly ever seen his upper lip. He had a mustache when we met. He shaved it off once years back and it scared the children, so never that again. Well, they're in their twenties now so they could probably take it. But I like the facial hair.

but it really does depend on the guy. Some dudes look very nice with facial hair - others, like dumpster-divers. I have a friend who calls bad beards "facial pubes" - which may be going a bit far, but the visual makes me laugh. One of my sons insists on growing a goatee every so often & he really isn't old enough to pull it off, which gives his older brothers howling fits of laughter; this is the sort of thing that a guy might consider - along with his lady's opinion - when contemplating growing facial hair.

I've dated guys with & without facial hair. Doesn't matter to me as long as it's well-maintained, & the guy takes care of it. BUT if the lady says that it bothers her, & the lady is important, that would be something to take note of. JMHO.
