The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGonna take a break from news. What should I binge watch?
Considering these just off the top of my head:
Lord of the Rings
Dexter (all seasons)
Game of Thrones (haven't watched the whole thing in a while)
Hunger Games (all 4 chapters)
Harry Potter (complete series)
Other suggestions?

(34,136 posts)Dozens of different authors in collections, some going back to the early 20th century. Some collections are by authors, some just sort of random. $0.99 each for most.
I bought a bunch to put on my tablet to take to read last year while in the UK. They've kept me in reading material for the last year and a half for under $30 total.

(45,012 posts)Tried a few times over the years. And never got into it.
But for some reason, maybe current culture and events,
I've taken to it now and have plowed halfway through the seasons.
Totally enjoyable. I love the way the characters develop.

(33,643 posts)It's been roundly panned for all manner of reasons as you've likely heard.
Other than Seasons 7 and 8 being what I felt was rushed overall, I thought the ending was pretty decent.
This is an unpopular opinion though.

Oh! And if you download the "Kanopy" app (Roku), it should have all kinds of free and interesting presentations from your local library.
Edit: I just had to type in my library card number initially (one time). Pretty easy.

(10,893 posts)If you want to hear about a functional government, read "A Band of Rivals".
Otherwise, stay away from politics. That means avoid John Grisham, Tom Clancy, etc. as well.
Other ideas--
Plan your garden. It's too early to go out there and start planting, but you can do the planning. That's why seed catalogs are mailed out this time of year. Although many popular seed/bulb companies are running low on inventory.
Learn a new song. If you are a guitarist, try "Classical Gas". Pianists should try a Gershwin piece.
Redecorate a room in your house. New paint, some different furniture, and a rearranging things will help your mindset after being trapped inside by this pandemic.

(6,123 posts)Wow. Based on a true story of a young man who gave up a life of entitlement to wander, penniless, across the country and into Alaska. The people he meets along the way are a little weird and inspiring. I won't give away the ending. This is a hidden gem.

(7,911 posts)Going all the way back to Seven Days in May and To Kill a Mockingbird.
The book is usually better. For example, the movie "The Circle" had a totally different ending from the book.
Red Sparrow made a far better book than a movie.
Of course I don't yet know the ending of the Game of Thrones books.
