Cars & trucks 55 mph
Meteors 18,000 mph

That hole is a mile wide, and yes, it could happen, again.
There are asteroids out there that I see in the news every year, get close to the Earth.

Even one about the size of a bus, that blew up high above Siberia causing a lot of damage.

My guess is...:

About the same chance as them being able to pick such a perfect location for the visitor center beforehand....
