Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo today I got my 1st Pfizer vaccination
Got lucky on Tuesday ... 1st received a recorded msg from local health dept that I was registered and would receive a call to schedule date and time, but it could be weeks or months 😐
So I decided to check local hospital sign up page and they had slots available every 15 mins from 8-5 ... so I clicked 3:30, went through 5-6 pages of questions, and boom! I was in 😀
Today the process took around 30+ mins, checking in at several stations, then the lady with the needle was waiting for me, several more questions, rolled up the sleeve and I didnt feel a thing, literally not even the pinprick ... sat for 15 mins observation and was given my next appt for 2/25 ...
dont have any side effects as yet, not even arm soreness, so far good 😊
Although sitting here enjoying my congratulatory glass of wine, and I noticed my Windows laptop has a new blinking cursor that says YOU ARE HERE 🤔😳

(9,291 posts)My local VA called me and gave me an appointment for this weekend. So Sunday at 1 pm it is.
Also my 2nd appointment is in. I didnt think I was high enough to get a spot yet, but Im not fighting science. My doctor and I really get along.
Let me know if you get any weird feelings. Just a heads up, still going anyhoo. Will buy a lottery ticket on the way home.

(23,643 posts)Here in NC its worse than the lottery ... after signing up at 2 health depts, I kept checking the local hospital sign up page, literally dozens of times a day, not like I have much else to do, and it was always no appts available so was shocked when I got to the page of pick and choose a time 2 days later 😀
Was a little worried they might cancel bc we got snow overnite but it melted fast
Hope you have a quick visit and no side effects 😷

I understand. My husband is now checking for himself. He has his pharmacist, and general MD looking. Hes also checking online, just not high enough on the list .yet
Good luck, and it will be a relief when were done.

(18,634 posts)Tons of confusing text all over the place to read some useful, some not.
Conflicting information, sometimes on the same page.
You must answer a series of questions, including zip code, before you can even check for appointment times.
Each zip code only shows 2 or 3 places so you have to enter zip codes multiple times to check more locations.
Several buttons may say that that appointments are available.
You click and fill out several pages of information and finally get to the page where they say all appointments are filled.
And nothing is saved.
To check another time you have to fill out everything all over again just to find out again there still are no appointments.
But after going through this maddening procedure for several days, the web page FINALLY gave me a list of times so Sunday I will get my first shot. I had to go through it all over again for my wife and luckily the same time slot was still available so we can go together.
Whew.
What an ordeal.

(23,643 posts)If what I experienced in NC was so difficult... the page I got my appt? I went back in minutes to see if my time slot was still open, meaning they were taking multiple sign ups for the same time, and ALL slots were filled like in under 30 mins ...
the same hospital I signed up through sent me a generic msg that they had received 40,000 doses, 10,000 less than they had asked for and they were gone just like that ...
Glad you both got your appts

(16,383 posts)Piece of advice: Super hydrate the day of your booster and continue to drink water throughout the next 48 hours. It will help. Stock up on popsicles; they tasted so good while I was having my immune reaction. Get plenty of rest after your shot.

(14,559 posts)I will definitely follow from your experience.
I was able to start the vaccination protocol because I am a respite worker.
My husband who is a senior citizen is going to get his vaccinations in a
few weeks.
Thank you Laffy Kat.

(16,383 posts)I work in health care, too, which is how I got vaccinated, and I'd say, just by observation, about half of us had an intense reaction to the booster and half of us were just fine.
