Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI get my first COVID vaccination Friday.
I'm in the over 65 group which is tier 1B here in NC. Only health care workers are ahead of us.
However, the demand for vaccinations has been incredible without enough supply. The people I've known who have been able to get appointments for the shots have spent hours on the phone or traveled to counties other than where they lived in order to get first shots.
Having recently moved and still dealing with issues related to that, I decided not to spend time trying to chase down an appointment. Instead, I put myself on several waiting lists by easily signing up online. It worked! On Monday I got a phone call from a county health department two counties-- and a 45 minute drive--away to schedule me for a first shot in March, the day before my 70th birthday. Well, okay. Then yesterday I got a phone call from my local county health department offering me an an appointment this Friday. I took it. If all goes well and I succeed in getting the first vaccination Friday, I will cancel the March appointment.
I tell the story to encourage people who are eligible to go ahead and put yourselves on waiting lists. They are working-- at least here in NC-- and then just wait for the call. It will come.

(4,670 posts)I first scored an appt at a huge facility 20 minutes from my house. A week later, my health care network offered me an appt for eight days later, at a small office in walking distance of my house!
I went with the first one. Eight days could make a difference. Of course, now I have to go back there in three weeks for the second one. I won't mind.
