(19,201 posts)I recognize stores along the parade route. That can't be this year, right? I thought the parades were canceled because of COVID.

(21,716 posts)The shorter drum major was probably the drum major in training, training to be the next drum major. He seemed younger and missed some moves. But it was great.

(19,201 posts)The shorter one's moves are more abbreviated. They're all pretty darned good though.
I'm really impressed, especially with the band. It's so hard to play in an enclosed space like that with so many echoes. It's very easy to get off the best, but they were rock solid.
(FYI - I was in junior high and high school marching band, as well as the Pride of West Virginia, the Mountaineer Marching Band. And I've marched with our alumni band for more than forty years. I know of what I speak!)

(2,029 posts)I went to Edna Kerr many, many, many years ago when it was still a junior high school. Glad to know it's still around and that the band is alive and kicking.

(19,201 posts)predominantly Black marching bands, as far as I know. As far back as I can recall (and that's quite awhile) Black marching bands have always been magnificent showmen and women. I believe Black College marching bands like Grambling, Howard, Buthane Cookman etc. were the originators. I do love watching them strut their stuff.
