The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI woke up yesterday morning and my cat's back legs were really weak
https://ibb.co/S59m8F5Her name is Psoghi. (Fun with alternative phonics)
She has been kept overnight at the vet clinic on IV as they said she was dehydrated and constipated.
She drinks lots of water and lays chunks about 4 times a day so I was surprised to hear this.
I call the above photo Psoghi's Chaise

(10,252 posts)Cats love cantelope. It has lots of water and provides soft roughage to keep her bowels unconstipated. You might also pour 1 tsp of olive oil over her kibbles.

(18,497 posts)I have health insurance for her so the medication (Vet estimated about $125 a month) would be manageable I just don't know about her quality of life.
She's very procedure adverse so I don't know that I want to be her most trusted and loved person who suddenly starts poking her with a needle twice a day.
I also don't want to just go back over there have her see me and hink she is going home only to have her last life experience being prodded by strangers or of a cage in a vet's office.
And she's 13. Not young. But cats can easily live a few more years.

You can administer them in such a way that it might not be as bad as you think

(115,719 posts)and he barely seemed to notice. The needle is very thin, and the injection is given in the scruff of the neck. My cat didn't even seem to feel it. I gave him the injections for several years - he finally passed away at the age of 16 for an unrelated ailment.

(18,497 posts)She apparently isn't even attempting to use her back legs.
I'm going to get her in a little while and see if she does any better just being home.
My heart is breaking.

(18,497 posts)As soon as I set the carrier down in her own home she walked out of it.
Not the strongest stride ever seen. But she walked.
There's no place like home.

She had no fear of strangers so she thought they were just loving her.

(18,497 posts)She grabbed my hand in her paws and rubbed her face on it at the shelter all those years ago.
She definitely chose me.
