On about my half-dozenth viewing of Dances With Wolves, I just noticed something.

Stands With A Fist's hair is a mess. All the Indians' hair is beautifully perfect, and DWW's got that Bon Jovi thing going. But Stands With A Fist's hair is totally freakshow. There's even a scene with Kicking Bird's wife combing it out, and still nothing good happens.

Is this a widely known thing, and I just missed it all these years?

I think that's intentional. She's emotionally fucked up and it's a symbolic thing. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #2

My hair is very babyfine and it always looks messy no matter what I do to it.

When I was a teenager it was very long, and even though I carried a comb around with me everywhere and combed it constantly, ignorant kids would still tell my my hair needed combing. The only way it's not messy is when it's maybe 3 inches long.

I still feel more fortunate than one of my sisters whose hair is not only babyfine like mine, but very frizzy as well. Her head always looks like a used Brillo pad.

Anyway, I've seen that movie many times myself. I think I have a crush on "Wind In His Hair"...

It also just hit me last night that the two main white characters are suicidal. (Three, if you count Colonel Piss-a-Pants.)

Great documentary on how Hollywood portrays Native Americans. Which is: not very well.

I have yet to stay awake for an entire viewing of that movie.
