Another reason to boycott Publix. Or, at least, the Publix that is closest to me.

I made a weighted, fatal mistake in January and first part of February. I began to include bananas in my diet. I noticed that it stopped the craving between meals, so I included them in my oatmeal for breakfast. And if I had a craving midafternoon, I ate them too. And then, about mid-February, I stepped on the scale, expecting to see a major weight loss, and discovered I had gained four pounds. FOUR POUNDS!

What was I doing wrong? It certainly couldn't be the mini coca-cola I drank at lunch that gave me the lift I needed to avoid the afternoon sleepdrums. No, it couldn't be that. So I cut out as much sugar out of my diet and tried to eat smaller meals.

At the end of the week, I gained another pound! What the hell!

So I researched the food I was eating, and under the caption, "If you want to gain weight, eat these foods." And bananas was one of them. I had suspected it, but I was sure that I was exercising enough to offset the damaging side effect. Apparently not.

So I really put myself on a diet for three days. Eliminated the bananas, coke and all the rest of the sugars. I also drank more water, since there was nothing else. At the end of the three days, I had lost three pounds. Probably because I was probably also dehydrated, and I was retaining water. Who knows?

But the point is, I had a massive sugar craving. So I decided to treat myself to something sinful, and the picture of a Snackwell Devil's Food Cookie was forged in my mind. I carried that image for two days, and then I went to Publix and discovered that section of the cookie aisle was absent of all Snackwells! There wasn't even an empty space saying, "Sorry, we're out." A clerk didn't even know about the change, since all he could do was conclude they probably had stopped carrying the product.

No Devil's Food Cookie in a time of forced sedentary lifestyle. It was the best no fat, no trans-fat, low sugar option on the market, and my Publix isn't carrying it.

I feel slighted.

in the recovering stages of my sugar cravings. I don't find straight chocolate appetizing, anymore. You gift me a box of chocolates, and I'll never finish them all.

My favorite guilt food is a carmel drizzled cake brownie with walnuts and extra chips. That one is hard to resist.
