(115,829 posts)About 100,000 kids are injured on trampolines every year; some homeowners' insurance policies specifically exclude them. I wouldn't let my kid anywhere near one.

(115,829 posts)but some people actually do think the nets are useful and that backyard trampolines are safe, which they are not.

(22,270 posts)on the steel tubing that ran around the outside. Broke her neck; paralyzed from the neck down until she died 2years later.
They terrify me. I could barely get myself to climb up on one in College PE
I do not want to imply that trampolines are not dangerous because they definitely are, they still terrify me.
The circle of kids standing around the jump spot gives a LOT of protection from the type of hit she took; the jumper is more likely to collide with one of them - I think it is pretty smart of them to do that
addition .. the net does encircle the surface, and the steel tubing is about a foot beyond that. The net appears to be well supported. It would be much more difficult to suffer a fall like that young lady did; that trampoline had no net and no protection on the steel plus the distance between the edge of the fabric and the bars was about 6 inches. Clearly dangerous.

(57,157 posts)Last year 300,000 injured were hospitalized, 110,000 were treated in ERs.
The last line is especially good: "Never allow your kids to practice flips and other moves without adult supervision. Follow safety methods for ensuring a safe and a sound trampoline activity for your children."
That video sure doesn't show that.
