(54,068 posts)3. Dogs can learn names.
Someone once told me that dogs respond to their own names because they think their names mean food or walk. But I've noticed from my sister's dogs most of them can distinguish people by name. "Go to Bucky" and "go to your cage" each seem to get separate and appropriate responses.

(15,812 posts)4. My dog prances around and goes back and forth between
our door in the dining room (glass, he can see the upper driveway) and the big living room window (where he can see the other driveway) if I mention the name of one of my siblings dogs. He loves her.
I have to remember that my sibling is perpetually late, otherwise my pup will spend a half hour dashing between the two views before sighing heavily and collapsing at our feet. He may give up momentarily but he perks right up when my siblings car pulls in!
